THE GREAT ESCAPE
Somewhere along the winding highway you made a wrong turn and found yourself in a sea of windmills. You swear this palm tree looks familiar… but then again so did that rock. Two hours of backtracking later and you’ve reached your desert oasis. Dry heat, cool pool, and fresh fruit await, but looks like the party’s already started without you. Time to shake off those missed turns and slip into something more social.
1. Swimsuit: on.
2. Find the nearest body of water for a quick plunge to recalibrate.*
3. If its calm you crave, lie face up at the water’s surface and spread out your arms and legs into a star shape. Keep your eyes open and notice the world move around you without a sound.
4. If a more extreme sensory shift is required, close your eyes and exhale out of your nose until you find yourself sitting at the pool’s bottom. Hear that? Silence. Come up for air and repeat as needed.
*No pool? No problem — find a soft bed of grass and lay supine. Pop in some ear plugs and count the clouds until you’re floating among them.
